The well-liked performer, whose stage name was Conrad Thompson, died this month, leaving behind a sad wake of grief among family and friends.
The music legend’s Black Caribbean roots helped shape the sound of drum ‘n bass in a big way.
He was famous for the electronic sounds he used and how lively he was on stage.
His talent agency says he died in April 2024, after making big hits with his music for decades.
Clinic Talent said in a statement, “He leaves behind an unmatched legacy as one of the most recognizable and loved voices in D&B.”
“Conrad will be deeply missed by all of us, and by all of you who were touched by his performances over the years.”
The cause of his death has not been made public yet, but tributes from friends and fellow artists have been flooding social media.
Saddened by his death, close friend Karis O’Hara said, “Conrad, my friend… we talked weeks ago about working together on a track, and then he went quiet, and I only heard the terrible news today…” It was nice of him to be nice to me during covid.
“Thank you for being a light and for the music and words.” Take it easy, MC Conrad. We’ll miss you.
“Legendary voice” and “nice bloke” were words DJ Zinc used to describe him.
Carl Loben, the editor-in-chief of DJ Mag, also wrote, “And we’ve lost MC Conrad now—way too soon.” A lot of MCs at the time were different from him because of the way he and LTJ Bukem let the music breathe.
“Later he started making music and running his own label. He’ll be missed a lot.” RIP”
Jungle and the founders of DNB 2 Bad Mice also said, “Rest in peace to one of the originals and best to do it, MC Conrad.”
MC Conrad, who is from the Midlands, became famous in the music world when he was still young.
He lived in Birmingham until he died after moving there in 2010.
Over the course of many decades, MC Conrad became one of the most famous and respected drum and bass artists.
