A METHODIST CHAMPION died after being hit by a car on a training ride.
Guy Timor was going to fly to the Czech Republic for a race. He is on the Israeli national track and road cycling team.
Local news sources say he was hit by a “unlicensed drunk driver” who was trying to get away from police near the Nehora interchange.
This morning, police said in a statement that they had arrested a man in his 20s.
It was also found that the driver had been caught driving without a license before the initial investigation.
The driver, who is said to have never had a license, hit Timor while he was trying to get away from police who told him to stop.
In the last few years, Timor has played for Israel in the European and World Championships.
He won a silver medal in both the Israeli Track Cycling Championship and the Israeli Road Cycling Championship for U-23s in 2024.
“It’s a huge and painful loss,” Timor’s coach Tzachi Bogen said. It’s hard to believe that our friend was taken away in an instant.
Fellow rider Yonatan Turgeman said, “He was a great rider and always had a smile on his face.”
It was impossible not to want to ride with him. Every developed country has bike lanes and paths.
“But not our country.” We can’t keep ourselves safe.
