Search Continues for Missing Mother

Savannah Guthrie, longtime co-anchor of NBC’s Today show, has suspended her broadcasting duties — including hosting NBC’s coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics — as law enforcement conducts an ongoing search for her missing mother, authorities and media outlets report.

Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing from her home near Tucson, Arizona on February 1, sparking an intensive search by local and federal agencies. Law enforcement officials now believe she may have been abducted from her home against her will, and are treating the residence as an active crime scene after signs of forced entry were discovered.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Nancy Guthrie — who has limited mobility and critical daily medication needs — was last seen at her residence Saturday night and did not show up for her usual Sunday church service, prompting family members to raise the alarm. Law enforcement described the circumstances as “highly unusual,” given her health needs and lack of cognitive impairment.

In the days since the disappearance was reported, search efforts have included aerial support, canine units, and investigative resources from the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and local homicide teams, which have been brought in to assist given the evidence of foul play. Officials are reviewing neighborhood surveillance, cellphone data, and other leads as they work to locate Nancy Guthrie.

Due to the crisis, NBC confirmed that Guthrie will no longer co-host Today’s planned coverage of the Winter Olympics opening ceremonies in Milan later this month. Colleagues, including fellow hosts Hoda Kotb and other network personnel, have publicly expressed support for Guthrie and her family, while urging the public to provide tips to authorities.

Guthrie released a heartfelt appeal on social media, asking for prayers and community assistance in the search for her mother’s safe return, thanking law enforcement for their efforts and acknowledging the emotional toll of the situation.

As of this week, law enforcement has not announced any suspects or arrests in connection with the case. The public is being urged to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Office with any information that could assist in locating Nancy Guthrie.
