This woman presented herself at the emergency room complaining of excruciating stomach pain; however, the findings of the thorough examination that the physician performed stunned him.
After the procedure, the medical staff extracted a total of 11,950 gallstones from the patient’s body. Cholesterol and the several other components that can be found in bile are what make up gallstones. They might be as little as a grain of wheat or as huge as a golf ball, depending on their dimensions. The vast majority of these stones do not cause any difficulties whatsoever; nevertheless, if they clog an excretory canal, they might cause pain, nausea, or even a fatal infection.
Dr. Makhan Lala Saha was the one who performed the operation on the woman, and he later said that he was surprised to see so many stones removed from the patient’s gallbladder. I never imagined that a gallbladder could house such a large number of stones.
The doctor assisted the team of doctors in counting all of the stones that were extracted, and the total number of stones surprised them: 11,950 computations with sizes ranging from 2 to 5 millimeters.
Even though this instance involved only 3,110 stones being removed from a patient in Germany in 1983, it still managed to shock the medical community and set what appears to be a new record.
