New Details Emerge in Disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s Mother

Tucson, Ariz. — New information has come to light in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, as authorities continue to search for answers in what officials believe may be an abduction.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area north of Tucson, Arizona on the evening of January 31, and was reported missing by her family the following day after a friend noticed she had not attended church as expected.

Investigation Shifts to Crime Scene

Law enforcement officials from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department now describe the home as an active crime scene, saying evidence at the residence suggests foul play. Footage indicates signs of forced entry and personal items — including Nancy’s cellphone — were left behind. Authorities believe she did not leave on her own.

Blood was reportedly found inside the home, and investigators are treating the disappearance as a possible abduction case, with medical and homicide teams involved in the probe.

Health Concerns and Search Efforts

Nancy, who has limited mobility and requires daily medication to survive, is considered particularly vulnerable. Officials have stressed the urgency of locating her due to those medical needs.

In addition to local law enforcement, the FBI and other federal agencies are assisting with the investigation. Deputies have reviewed security footage and processed biological DNA evidence from the home, which they hope will identify leads.

Family Response

Savannah Guthrie has stepped back from her regular Today show duties and withdrew from planned coverage of the Winter Olympics in order to be with family and assist with the search. She has publicly appealed for support, asking the public to pray and urging anyone with information to contact authorities.

Colleagues from Today and other public figures have expressed support and encouraged viewers to offer tips to law enforcement.

Public Assistance and Ongoing Search

Officials continue to urge residents in the Tucson area to check any home security or surveillance video that may capture relevant activity, and have offered a reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return. At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified.

As the investigation progresses, law enforcement has reiterated that there is no indication of a broader threat to the public, and that the focus remains on locating Nancy and understanding the circumstances of her disappearance.
