Oscar-nominated legend passed away

He was known for movies like “Fiddler on the Roof” (1971), “Moonstruck” (1987), and “In the Heat of the Night” (1967).

The exact cause of his death has not been made public. He died “peacefully” at his home in Los Angeles.

Jewison worked with famous people in Hollywood like Danny DeVito, Denzel Washington, and Whoopi Goldberg.

He also directed Hollywood stars like Sidney Poitier, Steve McQueen, and Faye Dunaway in the 20th century.

His films won a total of 12 Oscars out of 46 nominations, and the director himself was nominated three times.

At the 1999 Oscars, Jewison was given the prestigious Irving Thalberg Award, which is the Academy’s highest honor for lifetime achievement.

In the Heat of the Night, a racial drama he made in 1967, won best picture.

Between the 1960s and 2000s, he was most busy. During that time, he directed and wrote comedies, musicals, and romances.

He lived in Toronto and was in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War.
