Ryan Reynolds sent Wrexham captain Ben Tozer a note of sympathy after learning of his devastating family loss this week.
After the soccer player shared the tragic news of his father’s sudden death two days after he was diagnosed with leukemia, the co-owner of Wrexham AFC paid his respects on social media.
According to Ben, Keith received a diagnosis on Saturday and underwent a successful brain operation on Sunday. He passed away abruptly on Monday at the age of 59, though.
In a tweet with the hashtag “Don’t leave it too late,” the 33-year-old said, “On Saturday, I was told my Dad has Leukaemia, but it’s treatable!”
He needed a brain operation on Sunday night, which went smoothly. Then, last night, the unthinkable occurred, he claimed. Unfortunately, he waited too long, and that’s why everything happened. Unaware of it, he was trying to hide his agonizing suffering.
We always told them to “go and get checked,” Ben continued. Simply put, he was scared of what it might be. I appreciate it a lot, Dad. I’ll remember our last exchange of words for the rest of my life. I cherish you. We all tried to please you, I hope.”
Ryan, who co-owns Wrexham Football Club with actor Rob McElhenney, tweeted Ben’s statement along with the following sentiment: “So sorry to hear this. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Ben’s heartbreaking news prompted Ryan to write, “Gut-wrenching,” in direct response. Please accept my sincere sympathies to the Tozer family.
Ryan has had other close-to-home heartbreak in the past. He bemoaned the passing of Jay Fear, a supporter of Wrexham who passed away from appendix cancer four months after being diagnosed, earlier this year. He was 45.
Along with pictures of him, Jay, and his family, Ryan posted condolences on Instagram Stories on behalf of himself and his wife, Blake Lively.
“Jay Fear, rest in peace.” One of the bravest, kindest, and most generous individuals I’ve ever met, Jay is in Ryan’s photo, which he captioned, “One of the bravest, kindest, and most generous people I’ve ever met.” “Deb, Sam, and Jess, I’m grateful that you shared your father with me.”
The charity Bucket List Wishes set up a meeting between Ryan and Jay in April before Wrexham’s victory over Boreham Wood, which resulted in the team’s first promotion to the Football League in 15 years.
It was fantastic to meet Jay, Ryan said at the time, adding that he was “choked up” after meeting him. If our roles were reversed, I’m not sure if I’d feel the same way. His family is even greater than his lovely personality. I experienced some emotion while speaking with him since I realized how much his wife and children will miss him.
Jay was ecstatic to see his “idol” and received a glove from Deadpool as a gift. Ryan had also arranged for him to visit the third movie’s set while it was being filmed, but Jay tragically passed away before he could.
