Laurie Johnson, a TV composer who was known for her work on The Avengers, The Professionals, and This is Your Life, has died at the age of 96.
The North London-based veteran musician made instrumental versions of songs that were used in a huge number of hit movies and TV shows.
Laurie Johnson died last Tuesday in his sleep, according to his family. He left behind a huge legacy.
He did the music for some of Britain’s most popular TV shows and movies, like The Professionals, The Avengers, Animal Magic, and This is Your Life.
His family said that his work “will always be a part of our hearts.”
They said in a sad statement, “Laurie’s music changed the lives of millions of people all over the world.”
“During his long and successful career, he wrote many famous scores, themes, and soundtracks that we heard, saw, and heard on the radio, TV, and in movies.”
“Laurie was a truly remarkable person who lived life with a passion and made a lot of people happy.”
“His kindness, compassion and infectious sense of fun and laughter will be profoundly missed by all that knew him.”
Johnson became famous after writing music for the hit TV show The Avengers.
He started by making the theme song more upbeat, and then he made more music for the popular show.
His music was also used in the follow up, The New Avengers, which starred Macnee and Dame Joanna Lumley.
He has worked on movies like “Dr. Strangelove,” “Tiger Bay,” and “It Shouldn’t Happen to a Vet.”
Laurie got the MBE in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his work in music.
